About Blackout & Masking
This is the working end of the catalog: napped and woven cloths that absorb light instead of bouncing it. Commando cloth, 54 inches wide, carries a brushed non-reflective pile over a high-density weave and comes in 12 oz (black, white, and grey) with a 16 oz black for harder duty. Duvetyne, at 9 oz on the same 54 inch width, is the lighter standard for masking, stage curtains, and light control in film production.
Past the utility cloths, the range moves into blackouts and drapery weights. IFR Richmond Blackout, 60 inches wide and inherently flame retardant, blocks light through a high-density weave with a softer hand than resin-coated goods. The IFR 3 Pass Foam Blackout Lining reaches 100 percent opacity and adds thermal insulation and acoustic dampening. Wool serge, a 72 inch heavy-duty twill with natural acoustic properties, and tight-weave ranger cloth round out the group, all sold by the yard or the bolt, with FR certificates on request for the certified fabrics.

Common questions
Are these masking fabrics flame retardant?
The IFR Richmond Blackout and the IFR 3 Pass Foam Blackout Lining are inherently flame retardant. For certified fabrics we supply flame-retardant certificates on request, covering NFPA 701, CAN/ULC-S109, and California Title 19. If a product page does not state FR performance, ask before specifying that fabric for a code-governed installation and we will confirm what documentation exists.
What widths and weights do these fabrics come in?
Commando cloth is 54 inches wide in two weights: 12 oz, stocked in black, white, and grey, and 16 oz in black. Duvetyne is a 9 oz cloth, also 54 inches. Ranger cloth runs 54 inches, IFR Richmond Blackout runs 60 inches, and wool serge runs 72 inches, the widest in this group, which means fewer seams across a wide masking drape.
Can I get samples before I order?
Yes. Free fabric samples, sample cards, and specifications are available on request. Handling the nap of a commando cloth or comparing the hand of the IFR Richmond Blackout against a foam-backed lining settles most spec questions faster than a data sheet. Do you sell by the yard or only by the bolt?
Both. Fabric is cut to your yardage for smaller jobs and sold by the full bolt for larger runs or shop stock. For volume pricing, or when a project calls for made-to-measure work, send a quote request with the fabric, yardage, and color and we will come back with numbers.
How fast can you ship masking fabric?
