About Theatrical Velour
Velour is the working fabric of the stage: a dense pile that absorbs light, cuts glare under stage lighting, and damps sound wherever it hangs. Fred Krieger Fabrics has supplied the theatrical trade since 1979, and this collection runs from Odyssey Velour at 15 oz to Epic Velour at 25 oz in 17 colorways, with Sophia Velour 21 oz and Carmel Velour (black, in 15 oz and 23 oz) in between. Widths run 54 to 62 inches in woven and knit constructions.
Where the spec calls for code compliance, Prism Velour comes in inherently flame-retardant (IFR) polyester at 15 oz and 22 oz, 62 inches wide, in 14 colorways, and Renaissance Velour pairs IFR polyester with post-consumer recycled polyester. Flame-retardant certificates (NFPA 701, CAN/ULC-S109, California Title 19) are supplied on request for certified fabrics. Everything is sold by the yard or the full bolt, with free sample cards available before you commit to a run.
Why Fred Krieger Fabrics
01
Weights From 15 to 25 oz
Odyssey, Prism, and Carmel at 15 oz, Sophia at 21 oz, Prism at 22 oz, Carmel at 23 oz, and Epic at 25 oz: enough spread to match the cloth to legs, borders, masking, or a full house curtain.
02
Fire Code Paperwork Handled
Prism Velour is made from IFR polyester, and Renaissance Velour combines IFR polyester with post-consumer recycled polyester. Flame-retardant certificates for NFPA 701, CAN/ULC-S109, and California Title 19 are supplied on request for certified fabrics, ready for your venue file.
03
By the Yard or the Bolt
Order the exact yardage a drop or border needs, or take full bolts for a season's build. Volume pricing and made-to-measure work are handled through quote requests.
04
Stocked, With Free Samples
A well-stocked warehouse gives zero-day lead times on many fabrics. Free sample cards and specs are available on request, so you can check pile and color before ordering.
Common questions
Are these theatrical velours flame retardant?
Prism Velour (15 oz and 22 oz) is made from inherently flame-retardant (IFR) polyester, and Renaissance Velour combines IFR polyester with post-consumer recycled polyester. For certified fabrics, flame-retardant certificates are supplied on request, covering NFPA 701, CAN/ULC-S109, and California Title 19. If your venue or authority having jurisdiction requires documentation, ask for the certificate when you request a quote.
What weights and widths are available?
The collection runs 15 oz to 25 oz. Odyssey, Prism, and Carmel start at 15 oz; Sophia is 21 oz, Prism also comes in 22 oz, Carmel in 23 oz, and Epic Velour is 25 oz. Widths are 54 inches on Odyssey, Sophia, and Epic, 60 inches on Carmel, and 62 inches on Prism and Renaissance. Lighter weights suit borders, legs, and masking; the heavier cloths carry house curtains and acoustic drapery.
Can I get samples before ordering?
Yes. Free fabric samples, sample cards, and specs are available on request. Seeing the pile, weight, and color in hand matters for velour, especially when matching an existing house curtain or checking how a colorway reads under your lighting. Request samples when you ask for a quote, or call (800) 892-8142.
Do you sell by the yard or by the bolt?
Both. Fabric is cut to the yardage you need or supplied as full bolts for larger productions, tours, and installations. Either way it is the same stock; the bolt is simply the practical unit for bigger jobs. Volume pricing is handled through quote requests, which also cover made-to-measure work when a project calls for it.
How quickly can velour ship?
Many fabrics ship on zero-day lead times from our well-stocked warehouse, so in-stock velour does not wait on a mill run. For large runs, specific colorways, or full-bolt quantities, request a quote and we will confirm stock and timing before you commit to the order.
