The collection covers every layer of a stage house. Velours run from the 15 oz Odyssey and Prism to Carmel at 23 oz and Epic at 25 oz; Prism and Renaissance are knitted from IFR polyester on 62 inch widths, Renaissance with post-consumer recycled content. Masking is handled by commando cloth in 12 and 16 oz weights, 9 oz duvetyne, and an IFR 3-pass foam blackout lining. Sharkstooth scrim comes 20 feet seamless, leno up to 31 feet, and muslin 12 feet for scenic painting.
Fred Krieger Fabrics has supplied the theatrical trade since 1979 and remains family-run across three generations. Fabric ships by the yard or by the full bolt from a well-stocked warehouse, with zero-day lead times on many lines. Flame-retardant certificates (NFPA 701, CAN/ULC-S109, California Title 19) are supplied on request for certified fabrics, and free sample cards with specs are available before you commit yardage. Quote requests cover volume pricing and made-to-measure work.
Why Fred Krieger Fabrics
01
Stocked for zero-day lead times
A well-stocked warehouse puts zero-day lead times on many fabrics, whether the order is a few yards for a repair or full bolts for a season build.
02
Fire documentation on request
Flame-retardant certificates (NFPA 701, CAN/ULC-S109, California Title 19) are supplied on request for certified fabrics, and IFR lines such as Prism Velour and the IFR cyc cloths carry flame retardancy in the fiber itself.
03
Free samples and specs
Sample cards and specs are free on request. Judge pile, weight, and color under your own stage lighting before you commit to yardage, whether the job calls for velour, scrim, or muslin.
04
Family-run since 1979
Fred Krieger entered the textile trade in the 1950s and founded Fred Krieger & Co. in 1979 to serve the theatrical industry. Dan Krieger joined in 1983 and leads the company today, three generations on.
Common questions
Do your theatrical fabrics meet fire codes like NFPA 701?
Flame-retardant certificates (NFPA 701, CAN/ULC-S109, California Title 19) are supplied on request for certified fabrics. Several lines are inherently flame retardant, with the FR property in the fiber itself: Prism and Renaissance Velour are knitted from IFR polyester, and the range includes IFR cyc cloths, IFR Chevron 2000, IFR Richmond Blackout, and an IFR 3-pass foam blackout lining. Tell us which code your venue must meet when you request a quote.
What weights and widths do stage velours come in?
Velours run from 15 oz (Odyssey, Prism, and Carmel) through 21 oz Sophia, 22 oz Prism, and 23 oz Carmel to the 25 oz Epic. Widths are 54 inches for Odyssey, Epic, and Sophia, 60 inches for Carmel, and 62 inches for Prism and Renaissance. Heavier constructions such as Sophia and Epic are built for complete opacity and acoustic damping in main drapery.
How wide are your seamless scrims and muslins?
Sharkstooth scrim comes 20 feet seamless in black, white, and blue. Leno is available in 20 and 31 foot widths in white and grey. Muslin runs 12 feet wide in black, natural, white, sky blue, and grey for scenic painting and backdrops. Among rolled goods, IFR Poplin Cyc Cloth, IFR Chevron 2000, and wool serge come 72 inches wide.
Can I get fabric samples before ordering?
Yes. Sample cards and spec sheets are free on request. That is the practical way to confirm weight, hand, and color rendition under your own stage lighting before committing to yardage, particularly on colorway-heavy lines like Epic Velour with 17 colors or Prism Velour with 14. Request samples through the site or call (800) 892-8142.
Do you sell by the yard or only by the full bolt?
Both. Fabric is cut to length and sold by the yard, or supplied as full bolts for larger builds. Volume pricing and made-to-measure work are handled through quote requests. Because the warehouse is well stocked, many fabrics carry zero-day lead times, so cut yardage and stocked bolts can ship without a production wait.
